LA GRANDE VOLIÈRE
C’est la plus grande volière d’Europe !
Aménagée dans une carrière creusée à cet effet, véritable labyrinthe minéral, elle recrée tour à tour un canyon et une côte rocheuse arides, évocateurs de régions andines. Elle héberge 35 espèces d’oiseaux vivant majoritairement dans des écosystèmes rocheux et nichant dans des falaises et un couple de fourmiliers géants.
L’incroyable proximité avec les huit espèces de perroquets qui la peuplent est une expérience inoubliable.
Une zone d’eau douce accueille flamants, ibis rouges, spatules roses et canards. Tandis que la colonie de manchots de Humboldt, les sternes incas et les pélicans du Chili ont investi un bassin animé d’énormes cascades.
La Grande Volière est surtout la seule au monde où des condors des Andes peuvent voler. Avec les vautours à tête rouge, les ibis à face noire et les chouettes des terriers, ils hantent les pitons rocheux.
Vous pourrez y passer des heures à observer leurs comportements et les interactions entre les espèces.
It’s the biggest aviary in Europe!
Created from a specially excavated quarry, this stony labyrinth recreates, by turns, a canyon and a rocky hillside, reminiscent of the regions of the Andes.
It is home to 35 species of birds that live mostly in rocky eco-systems and nest in cliff-faces – as well as a couple of anteaters.
The fact that you can see the eight species of parrots that live here at an incredibly close range makes for an unforgettable experience.
A soft water zone plays host to flamingos, scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbills and ducks. Meanwhile, the colony of Humboldt penguins, Inca terns and Chilean pelicans has taken over a basin animated by enormous cascades.
Above all else, the Great Aviary is the only one in the world where Andean condors can fly. Alongside the Turkey vultures, the black-faced ibis and the burrowing owls, they hover above the rocky peaks.
You can spend hours observing their behaviour and the interactions between the different species.
