You probably didn't know that the oldest amusement park in Europe which dates all the way back to 1896 is Black Pool Pleasure Beach. Well, you do now, and it is possible to learn more about it in the new book The Amazing Hiram Maxim: An Intimate Biography by Arthur Hawkey. The book details the life of Sir Hiram Maxim, the brains behind the oldest funfair ride in Blackpool. The Flying Machine first opened to the public in August 1904 and cost at the time 7000 pounds. And believe it or not, this antediluvian contraption still works!!!
