ROTTERDAM ZOO

With its visitor count of more than 1.3 million people a year, Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp) is certainly one of the biggest attractions in the Netherlands. Rotterdam Zoo: it's an oasis in the middle of a metropolis. A green park-like environment where plants and animals combine to reflect a natural world that's becoming endangered. In Rotterdam Zoo, you'll make a voyage of discovery full of unexpected encounters. You'll travel through separate continents like Asia where you'll meet all kinds of unusual animals. Here's where you'll come face to face with camels and Przewalski horses on the Mongolian Steppes. In the Chinese garden, you're sure to be impressed with Chinese culture and the plants and animals here. See, hear and smell the pachyderms in the largely covered tropical forest of Taman Indah that also accommodates small woodland animals such as walking sticks, gibbons and Indian pythons. Or try out the wobbly suspension bridge running along the waterfall in the free-flight aviary of the Asian swamp that's home to many water birds and swamp animals. On the gorilla island, you can admire the two gorilla babies recently (1999) born to gorilla family.
